How To: Connect To Cell Phone Internet Though Windows Vista
Since my last article I have updated the OS on my cell phone to AKU 3 for Windows Mobile 5.0. This has been a huge productivity increase, since there is no longer a need to have a modem driver, and you can browse the internet and take calls on your cell phone at the same time.
Requirements:
- A Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 device.
- Active Sync 4.2 or greater for Windows XP or Windows Mobile Device Center for Windows Vista.
USB Internet Sharing:
- Open the Internet Sharing application under Programs.
- In the PC Connection drop down select USB.
- In the Network Connection drop down select the network connection for your cell phone provider. (i.e. Verizon Wireless)
- Press Connect in the bottom left.
- Plug your device in to your computer using a USB cable.
- You will then see your Status at the top change to Connected.
Bluetooth Internet Sharing:
I am going to assume that you already have your Bluetooth device paired to your computer. If you don’t know how to do this please check the manual for your specific phone.
- Open the Internet Sharing application under Programs.
- In the PC Connection drop down select Bluetooth PAN.
- In the Network Connection drop down select the network connection for your cell phone provider. (i.e. Verizon Wireless)
- Press Connect in the bottom left.
- Plug your device in to your computer using a USB cable.
- Setup a PAN (Personal Area Network) on your computer, again please search the internet or look through your manual on how to do this, because it varies from cell phone to cell phone and Windows XP and Windows Vista.
- You will then see your Status at the top change to Connected.
This is a great new feature that the Windows Mobile Team has included in the Windows Mobile OS. Not only can you now use your phone while you are browsing the web, but you don’t have to go through the hassle of trying to find a modem driver and then setting up a dial up connection and typing #777 and on and on and … you get the idea. I hope you find this useful, and as always please leave a comment telling me if this works or doesn’t for you.

How To: Connect To Cell Phone Internet Though Windows Vista…
Microsoft Windows Vista has replaced the old clunky ActiveSync with Mobile Device Center. On my Windows XP pro laptop I had to install drivers for my Windows Mobile 5 device, then the latest version of ActiveSync, which usually worked. When I upgraded …

It does not work for me. When I connect the USB cable to the PC the PC says “acquiring network address” and eventually times out.

I just had a question. I’ve been using my ppc with windows mobile 6 as a modem with my older pc exactly how it was described in the blog. I just “upgraded” my laptop to vista and I downloaded the proper software to allow activesync and all that but I can now only access my homepage and then it disconnects. My status still says connected on my phone. Can you explain to me what I can do to my pc or my phone to get internet? Im seriously contemplating returning my brand new laptop and downgrading back to xp.

I wouldn’t give up right away. It sounds like your computer isn’t actually connected at all, and homepage is just cached in your browser. To really try this theory out open up the browser on your homepage and hold down the CTRL key and then press F5. This will force a refresh, if you don’t get anything back this means your computer isn’t connected. Somethings to true are the following: Turn off your wireless card, most laptops have a button on the laptop for this. Make sure you have Windows Mobile Device Center installed from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx. Then do a Windows Update. Try connecting again. If that fails play with the settings in the Windows Mobile Device Center, I know that you can disable Internet Sharing through the mobile device, so maybe it is disabled.
Let me know what you turn up.

I have a green box when I connect my Moto Q9h.
Which self installed when I connected my MOTO Q9h.
I also have a little green icon I have never seen, but
it does look like the Sync thing, as its the only logical thing.
because when I connect my phone, it turns and brightens up.
Also This picture shows that I am not connected, because I am actually not,
this is just so you
can see and view my Windows Mobile Device Center Window - Pictures.
There is also no way of finding out which version I have as I have look every where.
these are my pictures:

I currently use my MOTO Q9h on ( Windows-XP ) and it works like a charm with no problems at all.
its only happening on VISTA x64.
Reason why I have x64 of Vista is because I have 8 gigs of DDR-Ram,
running AMD Phenom x64 system.
Thank you for having this helpful website to help people.
even though it might not seem like it, but it actually helps people.
so thank you in advance., keep up the great work.
Best Regards,
Dr. Foster
